In 1967 , a South African doctor , Christiaan Barnard, performed the first human to human heart transplant. He and his surgical team  took the heart of a 25-years-old woman killed in a car accident and put in the body of a 55-year-old man.The patient survived for 18 days. Over the next 10-15 years doctors made important medical advances, but many hear transplant patients  died . Nowadays , the operation have  a good success rate. Doctors   doapproximately 3,500 heart transplants a year , and at the moment researchers  work to perfect a mechanical heart. And what of the future? Technology will improve all the time.  we  will be able to perform bran transplants one day?
